An IP Phone is
also known as a VoIP phone. This device uses internet protocol and not
circuit-switched PSTN. It joins through an Ethernet cable and not with a
regular phone jack. On connecting with the internet, it links with the IP
address. The provider can be either VoIP or a hosted PBX. In simple terms, the
phone with an IP connection works precisely like a traditional telephone.
Though, the performance increases with an IP connection. If you’re planning to
start a business, you need to ensure reliable phone access. For such venture,
there is nothing better than VoIP phones.
About SIP type phones
The next device that you can consider for your purpose is the
SIP Phone. It depends on an Open
Standard, or ‘SIP’ to manage and set up phone calls. An IP-based network system
will carry your voice over to the listener using a different Open Standard. The
next Open Standard is known as ‘RTP.’ All these protocols have a generic name
termed as the VoIP or the voice-over-internet-protocol. Both telecommunication
devices operating on IP or SIP are commonly known as VoIP phones or VoIP
clients. The phones of the SIP variety are of two main categories. The first is
the hard-phone or desk-phone and the second is the softphone.
An existing confusion
The plain old telephone services use analog phone lines,
which are the FXS and the FXO. FXS stands for Foreign Exchange Subscriber, and
it delivers the analog line to a user. It is the connection that provides the
dial tone, ring voltage, and the battery current. FXO, on the other hand, is
the shortened version of the Foreign Exchange Office. It is the port that
receives the analog line, instead of delivering it. It remains on phones and
fax machines along with the FXS port. The FXSGateway connects one or more sequences of a PBX to a phone system with
VoIP. As an alternative, you can use it to connect analog phones and use them
on a VoIP phone system.
Why use them
As mentioned earlier, phone access is vital for ensuring the
smooth running of a business. Network-connected computers can do a lot of
things, but you still need phones for daily communications. If you have been
running a company for a while, then you know how expensive proprietary
telephones used to be. They were almost non-reconfigurable, and you couldn’t scale
them up or down according to your business necessities. So, it is wise to shift
to an IP Phone connection. It
operates on broadband internet connectivity and offers several significant
advantages.
